Organic Cotton and Organic Dying

Our brand Classic Textiles of Sweden has a large range of organic textile products such as organic bedding, hamam bath towels and terry cloth towels. Many of our yarn-dyed products are also dyed with organic dyes and the waste water is purified in a partially biological way.

100% Organic cotton from Classic Textiles

We are proud to be able to offer textile products made from 100 percent organic cotton, something that has a variety of benefits. This means that the cotton is grown completely without chemical pesticides and artificial fertilizers, and that the land where the cotton is grown has been free of chemicals for at least three years.

Another advantage is that cultivation is alternated with other crops, and a good balance between plants and natural manure improves the humus content in the soil. This makes the cultivation an ideal environment for small animals and insects, which reduces pest infestation of the crops.

BIOLOGICAL CLEANING OF WASTEWATER

We have also made the dyeing process more sustainable, in that the waste water is purified, partly biologically, and then reused. In this case, biological means that we add fertilizer in the form of cow manure to the waste water. This adds useful bacteria that naturally digest the chemicals before they sink to the bottom.

This is an important part of the work because the manufacturing takes place in a part of the world where the availability of clean water cannot be taken for granted. Seeing that it is possible to create change as long as the will is there has inspired us to continue to keep these issues central, not only for what we do today but also for what we can do better tomorrow.

Nano-free water purification. Bacteria in the cow dung digest the chemicals that then sink to the bottom where the sludge is taken care of. The purified water still contains a certain amount of salt. Most of this water is reused for new dyeing, where salt is actually needed, the rest is transported to a "solar bed" where the water evaporates and the salt is taken care of.
