Material
We’re proud to say that this product is made from 100 percent organic cotton – something that comes with a whole range of benefits. For example, it means that the cotton is grown completely without chemical pesticides and artificial fertilizers, and that the land where the cotton is cultivated has been free from chemicals for at least three years. Another advantage is that the crops are rotated with other varieties, and a good balance between plants and natural fertilizers improves the soil’s humus content. This makes the fields an ideal habitat for small animals and insects that naturally help reduce pest damage to the plants.
We’ve also taken the environment into account in the next step of the production process by using an eco-friendly dyeing method where the wastewater is purified, partly through biological treatment, before being reused. In this case, biological means that we add fertilizer in the form of cow manure to the wastewater. This creates vital bacteria that naturally consume the chemicals before they sink to the bottom. The purified water still contains a certain amount of salt, which is why most of it is reused for new dyeing processes where salt is needed. The remaining water is directed to a “solar bed” where it evaporates before the salt is collected. Production takes place in a part of the world where access to clean water cannot be taken for granted. This makes our efforts to minimize negative environmental impact an incredibly important part of our work.
